Evacuate | |||
Danger | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
Topical note | Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work
Topical note | Procedure for a damaged or leaky air conditioning system
Notes on handling refrigerant R134a
1 | Open electromagnetic shutoff valve | Open and close electromagnetic shutoff valve manually
Activate solenoid of electromagnetic shutoff valve
2 | Connect suction and pressure line of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit to pressure side test and filling valve (3) and to intake side test and filling valve (4) | Observe operating instructions for air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
3 | Remove cover cap over pressure side shutoff valve (2) and cover cap over intake side shutoff valve (5)
4 | Screw in pressure side shutoff valve (2) and intake side shutoff valve (5) approx. 3 turns | By screwing in the pressure side shutoff valve (2) and the intake side shutoff valve (5), the pressure side test and filling valve (3) and the intake side test and filling valve (4) are opened.
5 | Evacuate air conditioning system | Evacuate air conditioning system circuit up to the maximum achievable vacuum, but for at least 1 hour.
Leak test | |||
6 | Switch off air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit | Close valves of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit. Closing the valves prevents the leak test from being falsified by the air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
7 | Read off vacuum level from manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit | Note vacuum value.
8 | After 10 minutes waiting time, read off the vacuum display from the manometer again | Compare current vacuum value with noted-down vacuum value.
If there is a vacuum reduction:
| |||
Fill air conditioning system without leak test
After filling the air conditioning system, perform a test for leaky areas:
| |||
Inspect the air conditioning circuit for leaks
Drain air conditioning system before performing repair work at leaky areas:
| |||
Drain air conditioning system
After repair work, perform another leak test:
| |||
Repeat operation steps 1 to 8.
9 | Fill air conditioning system
Do not perform evacuation and leak test. |
