Draining | |||
Danger | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
Notes on handling refrigerant R134a
1 | Unscrew protective caps from test and filling valve for low-pressure side (1) and from test and filling valve for high-pressure side (2)
2 | Connect suction and charging equipment | See operator's manual from device manufacturer.
3 | Drain air conditioning system | See operator's manual from device manufacturer.
4 | Drain separated compressor oil from the suction and charging equipment and measure the exact quantity | See operator's manual from device manufacturer.
Evacuate | |||
5 | Clean and evacuate air conditioning system | See operator's manual from device manufacturer.
Filling | |||
6 | Add compressor oil | Before filling with refrigerant, replace the drained compressor oil with new compressor oil. The specified total filling capacity may not be exceeded.

Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
9 | Check air conditioning for proper operation | Run engine at idle speed for about 5 minutes and check all the component functions which are of relevance for proper operation of the air conditioning system.
10 | Check air conditioning system for leaks with leak detector | As refrigerant is heavier than air, the test with the probe of the leak detector must always be performed below the suspected leakage point. |
