Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Raise vehicle

 Position arms of lift platform in such a way that bolts (2) on the rear diagonal struts (1) are accessible.

Remove rear diagonal struts (1)

 Installation: The bolts (2, 3) must only be tightened on the rear diagonal struts when the vehicle is sitting horizontally on its wheels.



Support the catalytic converters (4, 5) with a transmission jack and transmission platform

Detach exhaust system (6) from the catalytic converters (4, 5) by unscrewing the bolts (7, 8)

 Installation: Clean connecting points free of combustion and corrosion residues. Replace seals (9, 10) and bolts.



Unhook exhaust system (6) from exhaust rubber mounts (11) and remove

 To simplify removal:

Apply liquid lubricant to the retaining bracket (12) and on the holes of the exhaust rubber mounts.

 Check exhaust rubber mount for wear, replace if required.

Install in the reverse order



Checking

Check installation position and unobstructed movement of exhaust system (6)

 The exhaust system must be mounted free of tension, align exhaust system if required.

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Conduct engine test run and inspect exhaust system (6) for leaks
