Check toe-in on front axle

Move wheels to straight-ahead position

Check the marking (C) on the steering gear (5) relative to the marking (D) on the primary shaft (6)

 If the marking (D) is not visible then the universal joint (3) must be detached from the primary shaft (6).

Marking (C) and marking (D) must then line up.

Otherwise, in addition to work step 4, perform the work steps for adjusting the center steering position.

Mount universal joint (3) to primary shaft (6)

 Only perform if the universal joint (3) was removed.

After mounting the gap of the universal joint (3) and the marking (D) on the primary shaft (6) must line up.

In subsequent adjustment operations the universal joint (3) gap can be used as a replacement for the marking (D).



Detach drag link (1) from steering gear pitman arm (2)

Turn steering wheel from left stop to right stop and count the number of rotations

Turn steering wheel all the way to right and then turn back by half the number of determined rotations

Turn steering gear to center position

 The marking (C) on the steering gear (5) and the marking (D) on the primary shaft (6) must line up.

Undo clamp screw on drag link (1)

Adjust length of drag link (1)

 Adjust length of drag link (1) such that it can be inserted free of tension into the steering gear pitman arm (2).

Connect drag link (1) to steering gear pitman arm (2)

Tighten nut of hose clamp on drag link (1)

 The drag link (1) must be capable of being moved inside the ball head once it has been tightened.



Check straight-ahead position of steering wheel

Detach steering wheel

 Only perform if the steering wheel straight-ahead position has to be adjusted.

Adjust steering wheel straight-ahead position and tighten nut of steering wheel

 Only perform if the steering wheel straight-ahead position has to be adjusted.



Conduct a road test

 During the road test check the overall steering behavior of the vehicle.
