Check

Raise front axle and lower onto jack stands

 The wheels must move easily.

Check steering knuckle and steering joints for ease of movement

 To check, turn the wheel to the left and right by hand.

If there are problems:



Repair steering knuckle or steering joint.

Raise front axle, remove jack stands and position front wheels onto turntables

Correct tire inflation pressure



Check wheel angle taking into account the tire size and tire clearance

If there are problems:



Adjust wheel angle.

Detach steering shaft intermediate piece (5) with universal joint (9) from steering gear (1)

Check whether the marking (arrow) on the primary shaft (10) is aligned with the marking (arrow) on the steering gear (1)

If the marking (arrow) on the primary shaft (10) lines up with the marking (arrow) on the steering gear (1):



Mount steering shaft adapter (5) with universal joint (9) onto steering gear (1) again, to do so, perform operation steps 13 and 15 to 17.

If the marking (arrow) on the primary shaft (10) does not line up with the marking (arrow) on the steering gear (1):



Adjust center steering position on steering gear (1); to do so, perform operation steps 10 to 17.

Detach drag link (2) from pitman arm (3)

Turn the pitman arm (3) from end stop to end stop, and count the number of turns on the primary shaft (10) while doing so.

By turning the pitman arm (3) turn back the primary shaft (10) through half the value of the turns counted from one end stop, and then align

 The marking (arrow) on the primary shaft (10) must line up with the marking (arrow) on the steering gear (1).

Attach steering shaft intermediate piece (5) with universal joint (9) to steering gear (1)


The universal joint (9) must be inserted far enough onto the primary shaft (10) to ensure that the fitted bolt runs smoothly in the radial groove (arrow) of the primary shaft (10).
Otherwise the steering may malfunction.

 Replace bolt and nut of universal joint (9).

Adjust length of drag link (2) and mount onto pitman arm (3)

Check straight-ahead position of steering wheel

If there are problems:



Remove steering wheel and shift to move into straight-ahead position, then reinstall the steering wheel.

Raise front axle, remove turntables and lower vehicle

Conduct a road test

 Check the entire steering behavior of the vehicle.
