Raise front axle and lower onto jack stands

 The wheels must move easily.

Check steering knuckle and steering joints for ease of movement

 To check, turn the wheel to the left and right by hand.

In the event of complaints



Repair steering knuckle or steering joint.

Raise front axle, remove jack stands and position front wheels onto turntables

Correct tire inflation pressure



Check wheel angle taking into account the tire size and tire clearance



Adjust wheel angle.

Check toe

Check whether there is a cover (3) on the steering gear (1)

A boot (4) must also be installed under the cover (3).

If there is no cover (3) or boot (4).



Detach steering shaft with universal joint (5), install cover (3) or boot (4) and mount steering shaft with universal joint (5) again.

Check that the markings (arrows A, B) line up with the marking (arrow C)


While checking, make sure that the straight-ahead position of the wheels is not altered.
Otherwise the result may be faulty.

If the markings (arrows A, B) line up with marking (arrow C)



Proceed with operation step 18.

If the markings (arrows A, B) do not line up with marking (arrow C)



Adjust center steering position on steering gear (1); to do so, perform operation steps 11 to 20.

Detach drag link (8) from steering knuckle arm (7)

Check straight-ahead position of wheels

If a problem arises



Move wheels to straight-ahead position.

Move pitman arm (9) from end stop to end stop, and count number of turns on primary shaft (2) while doing so

By moving the pitman arm (9), turn back the primary shaft (2) by half the value of the turns counted from one end stop, and then align

 The markings (arrows A, B) must line up with the marking (arrow C).

Adjust length of drag link (8) and mount onto steering knuckle arm (7)

If the markings (arrows A, B) line up with the marking (arrow C), the slot (arrow D) must face towards the longitudinal frame member.

If the markings (arrows A, B) line up with the marking (arrow C), the slot (arrow D) must face in the direction of travel at 5 o-clock.
