Remove/install

Use the right multifunction lever (S23) to set the retarder control to the "0" position.

 See information from body manufacturer.

Drain coolant at drain screws (5, 6).

Remove chips stuck to drain screws (5).
The cooling system can get damaged otherwise.

Partially drain transmission oil from transmission (11).



Manual transmission - oil change

 Installation: Replace sealing ring on screw plug. Fill transmission oil into transmission (11).

Check position of propeller shaft flange of propeller shaft (10) relative to retarder (1).

If the flattened side of the propeller shaft flange does not face toward the retarder (1),



Turn propeller shaft (10).

Detach cable ties (17) of locking pressure line (16) from transmission (11).

Detach locking pressure line (16) from retarder (1) and check sealing ring in quick-release fastener of locking pressure line (16) for damage.

 Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.

 Installation: Coat sealing ring with lubricant.
The safety clip must latch into place on the locking pressure line (16).

If the sealing ring in the quick-release fastener of the locking pressure line (16) is damaged,



Replace locking pressure line (16).

Detach cable ties of electric line from retarder (1).

Release and disconnect electrical connector (21) on retarder control unit (RCM) (A11).

Detach connector coupling of compressed-air line (20) from retarder control unit (RCM) (A11) and place compressed-air line (20) to one side.

 Vent compressed air at plug connection of compressed air line (20).

 Installation: On retarder control (RCM) control unit (A11), only compressed air connection system VOSS "232" may be used.

Detach clamps (14) of coolant pipes (7, 13) from bracket (15).

 Bolt, clamp for retarder coolant pipe to bracket

Detach bracket (15) from transmission (11).

Screw eyelet (3) with M10 thread at top into retarder (1) and secure with a shackle.

When removing retarder (1) upwards

Support and secure retarder (1) from below.

When removing retarder (1) downwards

Detach clamps at retarder from coolant hoses (8, 18).

Remove screws (12) from retarder (1).

 Collect and dispose of escaping coolant and transmission oil.

Detach retarder (1) from transmission (11) and lift out.

 While doing so, the coolant hoses (8, 18) are detached from the coolant connections (9, 19).

 Installation: When placing the retarder (1), turn the gear (4) if necessary.

Remove sealing ring (2).

 Installation: Moisten new sealing ring (2) with transmission oil and install free of twists.

Modify retarder (1).

Only if a new retarder (1) is installed.
