Preliminary actions

1

In the rear axle, depending on the type and purpose for the vehicle, in the disk brake calipers external part, the connections of the brakepads wear sensors cables connections can be different, as well as some connections support for the brake fluid pipes. Therefore, the brakepads removal and installation is basic for all the disk brakes actuated by hydro-vacuum.

All recommended requirements should always be observed, both relating to personal safety and environmental protection.
Avoiding accidents.

If, for any reason, the brakepads are removed and are reused, they must be marked so that they are fit in their original position in the installation.

Whenever necessary, replace the brakepads for any reason described.
The brakepads must be replaced as a complete set on the same axis, composed of four pieces, two on each side.

The brakepads must be replaced every time their linings present:

Minimum wear thickness specified.

Uneven wear.

Contamination with oil or grease.

Remove

2

Place the vehicle on a flat, level location to enable safe working conditions. Shim the front wheels in order to prevent the vehicle to accidental displace. The ideal is a pit or proper lift to work under the vehicle with safety.

3

Switch off the general switch.

For electronic vehicles, always observe the recommendations.

4

Release the wheels attachment screws without removing them.

5

Remove the wheels.

6

Remove the brakepads wear sensors (3).

Only vehicles fitted with wear sensors.

7

Release the dampening spring screws (1) and remove brakepads dampening spring (2).

8

Remove the external brakepad (5).

In the case the brakepads present difficulty to be removed, slightly push back the pistons forcing with a screwdriver, fit between the brakepad and the bridge.

9

Check the brakepads conditions.

10

Slightly displace the housing and then remove the internal brakepad (4).

11

Carefully clean the brakepads housing, specially the sliding and support surfaces.

Danger: The brakepads dust, if inhaled, is harmful to the health.

To perform the cleaning, do not use compressed air or petroleum derived products.

Petroleum by-products damage the rubber components.

12

Force the pistons to inside the cylinder with a proper piece of wood.

In order to prevent damages to the brake disc, do not force the pistons with the screwdriver or lever making support in the disc friction face. In this operation, the brake fluid returns to the reservoir.

In the case the reservoir is full, in the maximum level marking, the excess can be removed or them open the vent screw of the wheel cylinders.
In order to prevent air from entering in the system, open the bleeder only during the operation to get back the pistons, closing it right away relieving the force on the pistons.

13

Check the brake disc conditions.

Install

14

Install the internal brakepad (4) and then the external one (5). Check that the two brakepads are correctly seated.

Before installing the brakepads, check and if necessary clean the ventilation fins in the ventilated discs. Check the free axial movement of the cylinders housing.

15

Support the dampening spring on a flat surface and control the distance (A).

AR42.10-B-1600-10A

If the distance "A" is less than that prescribed or if the spring is deformed, the spring must be replaced.

.Minimum distance "A" from the pads shock absorbing spring

16

Assemble the dampening spring of the brakepads (2) and tighten the dampening spring screws (1)

Observe the dampening spring correct assembling position.

17

Install the brakepads wear sensors (3)

Only vehicles fitted with wear sensors.

18

Install the wheels

Danger

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

19

Lower the vehicle up to the ground without applying the final tightening on the wheels.

.

AR40.10-B-1100E

Strictly observe the later wheel re-tightenings after having driven the laden vehicle for some 500 to 1000 Km.

20

Switch on the general switch.

For electronic vehicles, always observe the recommendations.

21

Recover the braking pressure.

After replacing the brakepads, actuate the brake pedal several times so that they thrust the disc. It is not necessary to bleed the hydraulic system if it has not been affected.

Check and if necessary refuel the brake fluid reservoir until complete the level.

In the firsts 500 km after the brake brakepads replacement, it is recommended to use the brakes moderately, avoiding breakage in high speeds or application for long periods.

For a good seating (of the brake brakepads with the brake discs) it is recommended to apply the brakes reducing the speed from 50 to 30 km/h at each 2 km and preferentially with the vehicle loaded.

22

Bleed the brake system.

Only if necessary.

23

Check the system tightness.
