Remove/install radial seal at drive pinion gear

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

Detach complete wheels at rear axle

Push back brakepads and release parking brake

If it is not possible to crank the rear axle shafts by hand.



Disconnect brake cables.

Drain oil from rear axle differential



Remove propeller shaft at joint flange (3)

Turn joint flange (3) by hand and check end play of bearing

If there is end play in the bearing or wear debris in the rear axle oil



Replace gear set with bearing in rear axle differential.

Determine friction torque on joint flange (3) of drive pinion at a speed of approx. 50 rpm and note down

Detach joint flange (3) from drive pinion

Use suitable tool to pry out radial shaft sealing rings (4)



Install

Install new radial shaft sealing rings (4)

Replace compression ring.

Mount propeller shaft onto joint flange (3)

Pour oil into rear axle differential



Operate brake pedal several times until brakepads contact brake disks (brake pressure built up)

With removed brake cables



Hook in brake cables and adjust parking brake.
