| Remove | ||
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Place the vehicle on a suitable lift | The most convenient and safe way to work under this vehicle is using a lift with adequate capacity.
Subsequently, to remove and install the suspension components of each axle, the vehicle should be supported by the frame, both at the front and at the rear, on four or six large trestles.
2 | Disconnect the negative battery cable or turn off the main switch | For vehicles equipped with electronic engines, always observe the recommendations regarding the care with the vehicle electronics.
3 | If necessary, remove the wheels |
| |
If a suitable lifting is used, the wheels do not need to be removed
4 | Evenly lower the rear axle on both sides with the lift, so that the anti-roll bar remains free of pressure to enable removing the side arms (3) of anti-roll bar | At this point, the vehicle remains supported by the frame on the trestles.
5 | Remove mounting self-locking nuts from the terminals of the side arms (4) of upper and lower clamping of the spherical terminals of rear anti-roll bar (2), on both sides
6 | Remove the terminals using a copper or brass hammer, and remove the side arms of the anti-roll bar (3) | Take care not to damage the threads.
7 | Remove flanged screws of bearing caps (10) and the bearing caps of the rear anti-roll bar (9), and remove the anti-roll bar (2) with the split pads (11)
8 | If necessary, replace the mounting bracket of side arms on side members (5), remove the mounting flange bolts and nuts of the brackets to side members (6)
| Check | ||
9 | inspect all components of the joint | If necessary, replace the mounting bracket of side arms on the side members (5).
.Maximum clearance allowed on the ball joint of the side arm terminals of the rear stabilizer
Replace: | |||
| |||
Side arms of rear anti-roll bar (3) with spherical terminals in poor conditions, excessive wear or with deformed rod.
Mounting self-locking nuts of terminals of side arms (4).
Split pads (11) of the bearings.
Deformed rear anti-roll bar (2).
| Install | ||
10 | Install the anti-roll bar (2) with new split pads (11) on the bearings and tighten the flange bolts (10) to the specified tightening torque | Lubricate very lightly with petroleum jelly the contact portion between the bar and pads.
Note the correct position of the split pads (11), whose splices should be at the position indicated by the arrows.
Vaseline | |||
.Stabilizer bearings caps
11 | Install the mounting bracket of side arms on side members (5), and fasten them with the mounting flange bolts and nuts of the brackets to side members (6) | Use new flanged nuts.
.Supports of rear and front arms of the stabilizer on the stringers
12 | If the side arms of rear anti-roll bar (3) are reused, before installation, remove the snap rings of the hood (16) from the terminals, open the protective hood (15) and apply lubricating grease (A) inside the hood | After applying the grease, fix the protective hood (15) with fixing snap rings of the hood (16).
Grease, DB supply specification 6811.00.20 - Class 266.2
13 | Install side arms of rear anti-roll bar (3) on upper side of mounting brackets of the side arms to side members (5) and to tapered holes of terminals of side arms on anti-roll bar (12) | Use new self-locking nuts for the terminals of side arms (4).
.Side arms of front and rear sway bars
14 | Install the wheels if they have been removed |
| |
Note the subsequent re-tightening.
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
15 | Lower the vehicle from the lift
16 | Connect the negative battery cable or turn on the main switch | For vehicles equipped with electronic engines, always observe the recommendations regarding the care with the vehicle electronics.
17 | Run a test drive and check the vehicle's cornering behavior |
