Remove cover from transmission (3) and unscrew bolts (18)

 Turn engine at the center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine until the bolts (18) are accessible through the cutout in the transmission (3).

Detach retaining clamps of oil cooling lines to engine oil pan

Detach oil cooling lines from transmission (3)

Before starting work the area around the oil cooler lines must be thoroughly cleaned in the area around the separation points on the transmission (3).
Even the smallest dirt particles in the hydraulic components can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the transmission (3).

 Installation: Replace O-rings.

Remove front reinforcement bridge (9)

 Collar bolt, front reinforcement brace to frame floor

Remove bolts of flange connection (exhaust system to exhaust manifold)

Support transmission (3) with transmission jack and transmission platform and secure with tensioning strap

Remove rear engine cross member (11) together with the rear engine mount

 Installation: Attach the ground strap to the rear engine mount.

Mark position of front flexible coupling (12) relative to transmission (3) and to propeller shaft (20)

 This is to ensure reinstallation at the ex-factory installation position, otherwise drive line vibrations can be produced.

Detach flex disk (12) from transmission (3) and propeller shaft (20) and remove

 Self-locking nut, flexible coupling to transmission or front propeller shaft

If the fitted sleeves are jammed:



Loosen fitting sleeves of flexible coupling (12).

Prepare drift for loosening fitted sleeves in flexible couplings.

Unhook shift rod (13) from transmission (3) and fasten to parking brake cable

 Installation: Replace retaining clamp (10) of the shift rod (13).

Detach starter from transmission (3)

 Place starter to the side with lines connected and secure to prevent it falling down.

Remove bolts (4) of transmission (3) on crankcase

 Installation: Ensure correct fit of the cable bracket on the transmission (3).

Remove transmission (3) downward

 Secure torque converter (14) to prevent it from falling out.

 Ensure that no lines are damaged when moving the transmission (3) in and out.

 Installation: Align the holes of the torque converter (14) with the threaded unions (7a) in the driven plate (7).

Check threaded unions (7a) of driven plate (7)

 A new driven plate (7) must be installed if the threaded unions (7a) are damaged and loose.

For damaged and loose threaded unions (7a):



The driven plate (7) must be replaced.

Check rear engine mount for wear and damage

If necessary:

Replace rear engine mount.

Check front flexible coupling (12) for wear and damage

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
