Remove/install transmission with torque converter

Remove/install

1

Move steering into center position and latch steering wheel lock.

Unscrew battery ground cable.

Pull out oil dipstick.

Detach oil filler pipe (10) from cylinder head.



Drain transmission oil from torque converter and transmission.

 Installation: Replace sealing rings.



Remove fast forward line, return line and oil filler pipe.

 Installation: Replace sealing rings.

Detach control pressure cable.

Detach electrical connectors.

Detach vacuum line (11) from vacuum unit (12).

Detach retaining bracket (4).



Detach propeller shaft (7) and propeller shaft center support bearing (6) and fasten propeller shaft to one side.



Detach universal joint (2) from steering shaft (1) and lower the steering gear (3).

 Remove steering mounting bolts, pull forwards and lower steering.



Detach torque converter from driven plate.

Detach transmission bracket (8) on rear engine mount (9).

Insert wooden block for engine support between oil pan and crossmember.

Remove rear engine crossmember (5).



Detach transmission from engine

Raise transmission slightly using attachment for inspection pit lift.

Remove all bolts around circumference of transmission.

 Installation: Connect ground cable

Push back transmission and lower carefully.

Remove transmission from the removal fixture and position transmission vertically.

Remove / install torque converter.

 If the transmission oil smells burnt or contains particles of worn lining

Flush out oil cooler with oil cooler line as well as torque converter.

Install in the reverse order.

Check oil level and correct if necessary.
