1 Use adjusting sleeve (3) to pre-tension tapered roller bearings.
When doing so, rotate constant speed gear 2 (6) several turns.
The tapered roller bearings are pre-tensioned sufficiently when the constant speed gear 2 (6) becomes difficult to turn.
2 Loosen adjusting sleeve (3) slightly.
3 Turn constant speed gear 2 (6) several times while tapping against
constant speed gear 2 (6) using a plastic mallet.
To relieve jamming.
4 Tighten adjusting sleeve (3) finger-tight again.

5 Attach dial indicator (1) to adjusting gauge (2).
If the pin of the dial indicator (1) is too short, the extension must be used.
6 Attach adjusting gauge (2) so that is slides on adjusting sleeve (3).
7 Place feeler pin of dial indicator (1) on collar of main shaft (4).
8 Set scale of dial gage (1) to zero.
9 Place feeler pin of dial indicator (1) on collar of tapered roller bearing, and read off value displayed on dial indicator (1) (dimension A).
10 Determine thickness of shim to be inserted.
Thickness of shim = Dimension A - 0.20 mm.
11 Detach adjusting sleeve (3).

12 Pull off constant speed gear 2 (6) using a suitable pulling device until an axial play off approx. 1.0 mm is reached.
13 Position determined shim (8) against collar of tapered roller bearing,
and place pressure plate (7) against shim (8).
14 Fit adjusting sleeve (3) and tighten until pressure plate (7) has pushed tapered roller bearing back to its installation position.
15 Attach dial indicator (1) to adjusting gauge (2).
16 Attach adjusting gauge (2) so that it slides on adjusting sleeve (3).
17 Place feeler pin of dial indicator (1) on ground surface of constant speed gear 2 (6), and turn constant speed gear 2 (6) approx. twenty times.
18 Set scale of dial gage (1) to zero.
19 Measure value for axial play of tapered roller bearing of constant speed gear 2 (6).
The axial play value should be at the lower limit within the specified tolerance range.
Turn the constant speed gear 2 (6) right and left (horizontal arrow) while simultaneously pushing up and down (vertical arrow), and read off the axial play on the
dial indicator (1).
Do not push the constant speed gear 2 (6) up or down using a screwdriver or tire lever as this could result in measurement errors.
If the specified axial play value is not attained:
Determine the thickness of the shim (8) again on the basis of the deviation from the target value, install this
shim (8) and check the axial play again. If necessary, repeat the adjustment procedure until the axial play is correct.
20 Detach adjusting gauge (2), dial indicator (1), adjusting sleeve (3) and pressure plate (7).
