Disassemble

Remove transmission

 Choose procedure according to accessibility and design.

 See information from body manufacturer.

Remove left support arm (24) from transmission

Only if fitted.

Disconnect electrical connections

Remove pneumatic central clutch release bearing

Only with Mercedes PowerShift 3rd.

4.2

Remove release lever

Only for manual gearshift system.

Remove transmission oil temperature sensor (B505)

Remove travel and speed rpm sensor (B18)

Without transfer case.

Remove output shaft rpm sensor (B500)

With transfer case.

Remove main shaft rpm sensor (B501)

Remove countershaft speed sensor (B502)

Only with Mercedes PowerShift 3rd.

Use suitable tool to pry off and remove cover (2)

Remove retaining rings (3, 4)

Remove bearing pins (6, 7) of gearshift swing arm for 5th and 6th gear (13)

Remove bolts around circumference of rear section of transmission housing (25)

Remove front section of transmission housing (28) with press-off device (35) and adapter (34)

 Do not damage sealing surfaces.

Place down rear section of the transmission housing (25) horizontally and detach the support plate (40) from the output flange (21)

Remove rear section of transmission housing (25) with pulling device (39) and adapter (34)

 Use suitable thrust piece (length 120 mm, dia. 30 mm).
Rework plate on pulling device (39) if necessary.

Remove pulse wheel (19)

Remove reverse idler gear (29) together with needle roller bearing from rear section of transmission housing (25)

Remove shift rails (14) from main shaft (15)

 To do so, shift reverse gear gearwheel to neutral position and secure with a suitable tool.
