 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Remove/install

Drain coolant at engine.

Release clamp (8) at coolant hose (7).

Remove coolant feed pipe on the side (2)

Disconnect electrical connection on exhaust coolant temperature sensor (B606).

Remove clamp upper section (3) at retarder coolant lines (4, 5).

Only for secondary coolant-retarder

 Bolt, clamp for retarder coolant pipe to bracket

Push retarder coolant pipe (4) away from engine until screw (9) can be accessed.

Remove screws(9, 10).

 Bolt, coolant pipe to carrier for exhaust gas recirculation cooler

Remove side coolant feed pipe (2) from coolant hose (7).

 Installation: Check coolant hose (7) and clamp (8) for damage, replace if necessary.

Remove side coolant feed pipe (2) with connection piece (11) from exhaust gas recirculation cooler (1).

 Installation: Replace connection piece (11) and coat with lubricant.
Insert screw/bolt (9) into bracket for the coolant feed pipe on the side (2).

Remove coolant feed pipe at the front (6)

Release clamp (14) at coolant hose (13).

Remove screws (12).

Remove front coolant feed pipe (6) from coolant hose (13).

 Installation: Check coolant hose (13) and clamp (14) for damage, replace if necessary.

Install in the reverse order.

Start engine, perform engine test run and switch off engine again.

 Allow engine to run at a higher rotational speed.

Check engine in area of side coolant feed pipe (2) and front coolant feed pipe (6) for leaks.

 Visual inspection.
