Disconnect ground cable from battery

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Loosen coolant pump belt pulley bolts (5)

 Place a counterholder on the coolant pump belt pulley (5).



Remove poly-V belt

 Check poly-V belt, belt pulley profile and clamping device for damage and soiling; replace if necessary.

Take off belt pulley of coolant pump (5)

Unscrew lines for oil-water heat exchanger (11) to coolant pump housing; remove

Model 124, model 202 up to 07.94 with oil-water heat exchanger on the oil pan

 Installation: Replace O-rings.

Coat O-rings with coolant before installation; do not use engine oil.

Observe the installation position (arrow) of the line bracket.

Detach coolant hoses to coolant pump housing (12, 13)

 Inspect condition of coolant hoses and hose clamps, replace if necessary.

6 mm socket hexagon on flexible shaft for hose clamps with worm drive

7 mm socket hexagon on flexible shaft for hose clamps with worm drive

Remove alternator

 Attach to the side in the vehicle with attached lines.

Remove coolant pump housing (16) together with coolant pump (17).

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces.

Replace gasket (14).

Pay attention to dowel pins (15)



Remove coolant pump (17) on coolant pump housing (16)

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces

Replace gasket (10)

Pay attention to dowel sleeves (9)



Install in the reverse order

Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Inspect cooling system for leaks

 Check for leaks with engine running

Read/erase fault memory.

Stored faults possibly caused by previous simulation or by cables disconnected in the process of installation or testing must be processed and erased in the DTC memories once all work is completed.
