Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Remove/install

Drain off coolant.

Remove left charge air pipe.

Only if this is required for accessibility purposes.

Remove coolant thermostat (1) from oil/coolant module (2).

Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.

Installation: Replace sealing ring.

Remove coolant hose (3) at coolant thermostat (1).

Installation:
Replace sealing ring (4) in quick-release fastener of coolant hose (3) and coat with lubricant. Click safety Clamp (5) into place on the coolant hose (3).
Leaks in engine cooling system and resulting consequential damage can otherwise occur.

Install in the reverse order.

Start engine, perform engine test run and switch off engine again.

Allow engine to run at a higher rotational speed.
See information from body manufacturer.

Check area of coolant thermostat (1) for leaks.

Visual inspection.
