Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of lifting platform and position the four support plates at lifting platform support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Remove refrigerant compressor and bracket (to obtain better accessibility)

Detach starter (M1) at transmission and remove it downwards

Check starter (M1) and replace if necessary

 Engine 166: When replacing the starter (M1) an altered wiring harness must be installed: 

Check ring gear at flywheel for wear and damage

When replacing starter (M1) on vehicles fitted with manual transmission

 Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation.

Check ring gear on drive plate for wear and damage

When replacing the starter (M1) on vehicles fitted with automatic transmission

 Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation.

Render electrical system operational

Read out fault memory and erase

 When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased. 



Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out DTC memory.
