Warning | Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension | Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves.
Topical note | Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts
| Remove | ||
1 | Remove the red charge air hose and the black charge air hose on the charge air cooler.
2 | Remove the clamp (6) on the bracket (7) and disconnect the electrical connector (8). | Only with electromagnetic viscous coupling for fan.
3 | Loosen the cooler bearing and pry the cooler off of the fan. | Only if required.
See information from body manufacturer.
4 | Loosen the tension on the fan poly-V belt (2) and remove from the tensioner pulley of the tensioning device (3). | Only with a clamping device (3) having a locking bore.
5.1 | Remove the fan clutch with the fan on the fan belt pulley (1), push to the front, and bind. | With an electromagnetic viscous coupling for the fan and without an electromagnetic fan drive (Linnig coupling).
Lock the fan belt pulley (1) in place using a suitable tool.
5.2 | Remove the fan on the magnetic clutch, push to the front and bind. | With an electromagnetic fan drive (Linnig coupling).
6 | Take out the fan poly-V belt (2).
| Check | ||
7 | Check fan poly-V belt (2) for wear and damage.
| Damage profiles for a poly-V belt | ||
If damage or wear is discernible,
| |||
Replace fan poly-V belt (2).
8 | Check fan belt pulley (1), belt pulley (5), tensioner pulley and guide pulley (4) for damage and check for concentricity. | If damage or poor concentricity is discernible,
| |||
replace fan belt pulley (1), belt pulley (5), tensioner pulley or guide pulley (4).
9 | Check the red charge air hose and the black charge air hose for damage. | If damage is identifiable,
| |||
replace the red charge air hose and/or the black charge air hose.
| Install | ||
10 | Put the fan poly-V belt (2) onto the fan belt pulley (1), belt pulley (5) and guide pulley (4). | Routing diagram
Observe the routing diagram.
11.1 | Loosen the fan clutch with fan and install on the fan belt pulley (1). | With an electromagnetic viscous coupling for the fan and without an electromagnetic fan drive (Linnig coupling).
Lock the fan belt pulley (1) in place using a suitable tool.
Bolt, fan clutch to belt pulley for fan drive
11.2 | Loosen the fan and install onto the magnetic clutch. | With an electromagnetic fan drive (Linnig coupling).
Nut, fan to viscous fan clutch
12 | Place the fan poly-V belt (2) onto the tensioner pulley of the tensioning device (3) and tension. | Routing diagram
Only with a clamping device (3) having a locking bore.
13 | Align the cooler and tighten the cooler bearing. | Only if required.
See information from body manufacturer.
14 | Connect the electrical connector (8) and install the clamp (6) on the bracket (7). | Only with electromagnetic viscous coupling for fan.
15 | Install the red charge air hose and the black charge air hose onto the charge air cooler. | Do not swap the red charge air hose and the black charge air hose.
Clamp, charge air hose to charge-air distributor or charge air pipe or charge air cooler |
