Replace fuel lines for installation of all sealing rings on the banjo bolts

Remove fuel feed lines to the injection pump

Attach feed line (9) from high-pressure pump to the injection pump



Remove fuel return line and overflow valve at the pump

Close off bore using the screw plug (6)



Adjust and lock injection pumps lever at wide open throttle

Attach test line with inspection glass (4)

 to connection for injection pump for cylinder 1.



Attach turning device and place engine one half of a revolution BTDC

 To do this remove TDC sensor or inspection hole cover.

 Always turn engine just in the direction of rotation of the crankshaft.



Remove screw plug from timing case cover



Attach high-pressure pump to a 12 volt battery and switch on

 For engines with a minimum-maximum speed governor the charge air manifold must be removed from the minimum-maximum speed governor for checking start of delivery and the minimum-maximum speed governor should have a pressure of 2 bar applied to it.



Turn engine slowing in its direction of rotation and observe the flow of fuel in the inspection glass for any change

The exact start of delivery setting has been achieved for changeover of the fuel jet from constriction (B) into the droplet form (C)

Check the start of delivery marking

 Look between the drive wheel and pump flange (arrows) through the inspection hole in the housing cover and between the flywheel and edge of the timing case inspection hole.

If correction of the port closing position is required the engine should be placed exactly at the port closing position between the flywheel and the edge of the inspection hole (arrow). 

Remove/install timing case cover
