Modification notes
| Removing | ||
1 | Remove valves | ||
| Checking | ||
2 | Check valve guides (1) for surface damage | The valve guides (1) must not have any surface damage. If a valve guide (1) is not according to requirements mark or note the respective valve guide (1).
3 | Check valve guides (1) inside Ø (B) using a plug gage. | It must not be possible to insert the side of the plug gauge marked with '+' into the valve guide (1). If valve guide (1) is not according to requirements mark or note the respective valve guide (1).
| |||
4 | Determine the damaged valve guides (1) based on markings or notes | Install valves if no damaged valve guides (1) were discovered:
Install valves | |||
Discovered damaged valve guides (1) must be replaced:
Perform steps 5 to 11. | |||
| Removing | ||
5 | Remove valve guide (1) on cylinder head (2) from combustion side
| Measure | ||
6 | Measure bore Ø (A1) for valve guide in cylinder head (2) | The bore in cylinder head (2) must be reamed to the next deviation for the bore Ø (A1) if the dimension deviates from the value shown in the table. The cylinder head (2) must be replaced if the maximum deviation is exceeded.
Use quick caliper for internal measurements.
| |||
7 | Messier outside Ø (A) of new valve guide (1) and compare with current value for bore Ø (A1) | The identical deviation stages bore Ø (A1) and outside Ø (A) given in the table must be compared with each other otherwise the cylinder head (2) or valve guide (1) can be damaged.
The new valve guide (1) must be selected to fit to the current bore Ø (A1) in the cylinder head (2).
| Install | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by handling liquid nitrogen or by touching undercooled objects. Risk of suffocation from inhaling nitrogen gas. | Wear heat protective gloves, protective clothing and full eye protection.
8 | Insert valve guide (1) in supercooling box | Fill supercooling box with liquid nitrogen. Supercool valve guide (1) for about 20 to 30 minutes. Avoid contact with the liquid nitrogen or with the supercooled valve seat ring (1).
| |||
9 | Press in new valve guide (1) using a drift and spacer sleeve | from the combustion side outwards. Observe distance (D) of valve guide (1) upper edge to valve spring contact surface.
| |||
10 | Check inside Ø (B) of pressed in valve guide (1) using the drift; machine with reamer if necessary | Only turn reamer clockwise.
| |||
| |||
11 | Install valves |
