Removal, installation

1

Remove cylinder head cover (11)

Installation: pay attention to leaktightness of cylinder head cover

Check that gasket of cylinder head cover is correctly seated

Checking

2

Position piston of cylinder 1 to 20° after ignition TDC

Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine. The 20° marking (arrow) on belt pulley/vibration damper (95) must be alined with the positioning edge (A) on the timing case cover. The cams of the inlet camshaft (78) and exhaust camshaft (77) of cylinder 1 are positioned up at an angle.

3

Check basic position of the camshafts

Check whether positioning pin (01) can be inserted through the hole of one of the two camshaft bearing caps 1 or 6 into the positioning hole of the inlet or exhaust camshaft.

Due to the chain stretch the value of the inlet camshaft must be between 20° and 30°, and that of the exhaust camshaft between 25° and 35° after TDC.

If incorrectly fitted (chain offset by 1 tooth), the value is changed by about 20° crank angle.
