Extract or drain engine oil



Remove engine

Insert engine in the assembly stand

Remove rocker arm assembly

Pull out push rods (3)

Remove fuel pump

Remove all unit pumps

Rotate engine in the assembly stand

 Rotate engine by about 180° so that valve tappets (4) detach from camshaft
(1).

Remove oil pan

Pull out camshaft position sensor (B16) on crankcase

 Installation: Replace O-ring (2). Push in camshaft position sensor (B16) all the way on camshaft sprocket.

Remove timing case (6)

Pull camshaft (1) out of crankcase

 Installation: Lightly lubricate all journals for camshaft (1) and bearing points in cylinder crankcase with engine oil.

Remove valve tappets (4) out of crankcase

 Mark valve tappets (4) relative to crankcase.

 Installation: Lightly lubricate valve tappet (4) with engine oil and note marking.

Check

Inspect valve tappets (4)

 In case of damage or wear replace the valve tappet (4) in question.

Check valve tappet bores in cylinder crankcase

Check camshaft (1)

 If there is wear the camshaft (1) must be replaced.
