Remove

Remove cylinder head cover.

Set engine to ignition TDC on cylinder 1 and engage.



 The ignition TDC setting or locking must not be altered during removal/installation of the intake camshaft (3) or exhaust camshaft (4).

Remove rocker arm assembly.

Mark installation location of camshaft bearing bridges (1).

First loosen screws for the camshaft bearing bridges (1) in reverse order of the tightening procedure and then remove.

Remove camshaft bearing bridges (1).

Remove intake camshaft (3) or exhaust camshaft (4).



Check

Perform a visual check to check the camshaft housing (2) and camshaft bearing bridges (1) for wear, score marks or scratches.

If obvious wear, score marks or scratches are visible:



Replace camshaft housing (2) with the camshaft bearing bridges (1).

Perform a visual check to check the contact surfaces of the intake camshaft (3) and exhaust camshaft (4) for wear, score marks or scratches.

If obvious wear, score marks or scratches are visible:



Replace intake camshaft (3) and/or exhaust camshaft (4).



Install

Install intake camshaft (3) and exhaust camshaft (4).


Lubricate intake camshaft (3) or exhaust camshaft (4) with engine oil.
Damage to the intake camshaft (3) or exhaust camshaft (4) can occur otherwise.

 The markings on the gears (5) must match with the markings on the  template (6).
Select markings on the  template (6) according to the displaced volume variants.

Install camshaft bearing bridges (1).

 Observe the installation position of the camshaft bearing bridges (1).
The front and rear camshaft bearing bridge (1) is marked with "Front" or "Rear". Note the applied markings on the usual camshaft bearing bridges (1).

Tighten screws for camshaft bearing bridges (1) according to the tightening procedure.

Remove the cranking device from the timing case.

Pull out the drift from the timing case.

Install crankshaft position sensor with new sealing ring and tighten screw.
