Remove/install drive gear for balancing shaft

Danger!

Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of lifting platform and position the four support plates below support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Lock intake camshaft (8) of right cylinder bank with the  locking pin (9)



Remove centrifuge

Close shaft below the skip protection (3) with a clean rag (2)

 No parts must fall into the shaft.

Remove skip protection (3)

Remove generator

Remove chain tensioner

Fix timing chain (4) with a tie strap at left camshaft sprocket (5)

Dismount camshaft sprocket (5) from left exhaust camshaft and place onto the slide rails

 In order to slacken the timing chain (4) so far, that it can be pulled down from the drive gear (1)

Press down timing chain (4) from drive gear (1) and rotate drive gear (1) so that the spring (6) is at the top

Detach drive gear (1) from balancing shaft

 Do not let the spring (6) fall into the shaft.



Install

Fit on drive gear (1)

 Pay attention to the spring (6)

Rotate drive gear so that the marking (7) is slightly offset to the center line

Fit timing chain (4) onto the drive gear (1)

Mount camshaft sprocket (5) onto the left exhaust camshaft



Remove tie strap from left camshaft sprocket (5)

Installing chain tensioner

Check basic position of balancing shaft and camshafts

Install centrifuge

Mount ground line onto the battery

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Run engine and inspect for leaks

 Check engine for leaks in the areas of chain tensioner, generator, centrifuge, cylinder head covers.
