Unscrew screw/bolts (1) of front engine mounts (2) at front axle carrier

Raise engine

 Ensure that rear of engine does not touch body and that no lines of cables are jammed in between when attaching to the engine lifting eyes.

Do not over-tension coolant lines.

Do not over-tension charge air hoses.

Disconnect plug connection on steering gear

Unscrew screw/bolt (3) of steering joint at bottom steering shaft

 Do not turn steering wheel.

 Installation: Replace locking plate with self-locking nut.



Support front axle carrier with assembly lift

Remove screw/bolts attaching front axle

Remove screw/bolts at bottom of suspension struts



Lower front axle

 Do not disconnect lines of power steering pump.

Unbolt side part of oil pan (11/1) at oil pan (11)



Unbolt brackets (4, 5) of left transmission oil line (6) at oil pan (11)

Unbolt bracket (7) for transmission oil line (8) at right front at oil pan (11)

Unplug connector (arrow) of oil sensor (B40)

Remove screw/bolts (9, 10) of oil pan

 Installation: Align oil pan (11) to rear contact surface at transmission

 Pay attention to different lengths and diameters of screws:

Remove oil pan (11) together with oil pan gasket (12)

 Removal: Take out oil pan in direction of travel, if necessary rotate the crankshaft slightly.

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces. Insert new oil pan gasket (12).

Sealant on oil pan gasket must point toward crankcase

Install in the reverse order

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check for leaks with engine running

Read fault memory and erase if necessary

Stored faults possibly caused by previous simulation or by cables disconnected in the process of installation or testing must be processed and erased in the DTC memories once all work is completed. See: 
