Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check tire inflation pressure, correct if necessary

Park the vehicle on a horizontal, level surface

The vehicle level must not change when the brakes are applied.

Vehicle must be in ready-for-the-road condition (unladen weight, fuel tank full or appropriate additional weight).

Have person sit on driver seat or place load of 75 kg on seat

Start engine and run at moderate speed for approx. 30 s

On vehicles with level control or ADS.

Move vehicle back and forward in order to adjust the axle setting.

Prepare headlamp aimer

Align headlamp aimer approx. 50 cm in front of the headlamps parallel with the vehicle at the height of light source. Adjust specified headlamp inclination on scale of headlamp aimer.

Run engine and switch on low beam

Check headlamp range control for proper function

Both light beams of the headlamps must be evenly adjusted.

Check vacuum system of headlamp range control.

Move switch of headlamp range control into position 0

Check low beams and adjust if necessary

Due to the common reflector unit on model 168 and 414 the low beams, high beams and fog lamps are adjusted simultaneously.
