| Check | ||
Vehicle with vacuum assisted hydraulic brake
1 | With the engine off (no vacuum), actuate, strongly, the brake pedal | This must present a strong resistance, at approximately 1/3 of its stroke.
2 | Maintain the brake actuated and start the engine; the must give a little, but, without loosing the resistance
3 | Maintain the pedal actuated for approximately 10 seconds, the point of resistance should not vary
Vehicle with hydropneumatic brake
4 | Run the engine until service pressure is attained in the pneumatic brake system and shut down the engine next
5 | Fully actuate the brake pedal five times | Air consumption indicated by the instrument cluster gauge, must not be above 1 bar.
6 | When stepping on the brake pedal a characteristic pneumatic brake resistance is to be noticed
7 | Run the engine and actuate several times the brake pedal | When the pneumatic pressure indicated by the gauge, in the instrument cluster, drops to 5.5 bar, the lamp (5) must light-up.
Service brake adjustment - Hydropneumatic actuated brake
Automatic brake lash adjuster
| Vehicles fitted with automatic brake adjusters do not require periodic adjusting | ||
Parking brake | |||
| The parking brake actuates on the service brake mechanism not requiring individual adjustment | ||
Service brake adjustment - Vacuum assisted hydraulic brake
| The front axle is fitted with disc brake system, therefore not requiring adjustment | ||
| Brake adjustment has to be carried out only with the brake drums cold | ||
8 | Check the brake shoe linings for thickness
9 | Chock the vehicle front wheels and release the parking brake
10 | Suspend vehicle and support it on stands placed under the front axle beam.
11 | Remove the plugs (1) from the adjusting openings and, actuate clockwise on the adjusting device, until the wheel can no longer be turned manually
12 | Turn the adjusting device counterclockwise (approx. 6 teeth). The wheel should spin freely | Step on and off the brake pedal while adjusting.
13 | With the brake correctly adjusted, check the clearance between brake drum and brake linings | Utilize a feeler gauge
14 | Install the plugs in the inspection holes
Parking brake adjustment - Vacuum assisted hydraulic brake
15 | Actuate the parking lever to the fourth tooth | Whenever the service brake is adjusted, the parking brake is also be adjusted.
16 | Remove the protection cap and tighten the nut (2) until the left side wheel starts braking
17 | Tighten the nut (3) until the right side wheel starts braking
18 | Release the parking brake and check if the wheels spin freely
19 | Install the protection cap and lower the vehicle
20 | The parking brake applied warning lamp (B), must light up at the beginning of the lever's stroke |
