Warm engine oil up to operating temperature

Perform oil change only when engine at normal operating temperature.

Open engine compartment flap at rear

Replace oil filter element

Detach lower engine compartment paneling

Only if the engine oil is drained via the oil drain screw (1).

Remove/install bottom engine compartment paneling

Drain off engine oil completely

Remove oil drain screw (1) from the oil pan (2).

Suction off engine oil

Install and tighten oil drain screw (1)

Only if the engine oil has been drained via the oil drain screw (1).

Clean the oil drain screw (1) and install a new seal ring.

Pour in engine oil at oil filler neck (3)

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Build up oil pressure in engine

Crank the engine by pressing the Start pushbutton switch (S1/10) and Stop pushbutton switch (S1/11).

Pressing both buttons at the same time prevents the engine from starting. The oil pressure indicator lamp must go out after approx. 10 seconds.

Start engine

Check engine for leaks

Inspect the engine while it is running and when it has reached operating temperature.

Check engine oil level

Switch off the engine and check
the engine oil level after approx. 5 minutes; top up the engine oil if necessary.

Close engine compartment flap at rear

Install lower engine compartment paneling.

Only if the engine oil has been drained via the oil drain screw (1).

Remove/install bottom engine compartment paneling
