10 Dust extraction valve

Remove, Install

Warm up engine to operating temperature

Coolant temperature approx. 70 - 95 °C.

Inspect

Inspect red colored zone in inspection window (3) of the service indicator

If the red colored area is latched in the viewing window, press the release mechanism (4) in order to move the maintenance indicator into the zero position.

Danger!

Risk of accident as vehicle may start off by itself with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
Wear closed and tight-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Start engine

Accelerate engine several times briefly up to breakaway speed.

Check maintenance indicator

Red colored zone locked: Step 5.

Red colored zone not locked: Step 6.

Inspect condition of air cleaner element

Clean air cleaner element, insert new element if damaged, excessively soiled or if filter element has already been cleaned 3 times or if filter element has installation date which is more than 2 years or
90 000 km:

Replace air filter cartridge

Cleaning

Remove air cleaner element (1)

Ensure that no dust or dirt particles get into the inlet line (clean air side).

If replaced: Step 12.

Clean air cleaner element

Do not clean air cleaner elements without perforated plate, these must be renewed.

Blow out air cleaner element with compressed air (max. 5 bar) from the inside to the outside until no more dust comes out

Hold compressed air pistol at an oblique angle to the filter paper to prevent damage.
Do not blow directly into the filter paper pockets at short range as this can tear the glued seams of the filter pockets and allow unfiltered air to be sucked into the engine.

If this cleaning is not adequate, additionally wash the filter element:

Inspect cleaned air cleaner element with a hand lamp and check for damage.

Ensure sealing lips are undamaged.
Damaged air cleaner elements must be renewed.

Mark cleaning (CI/CII/CIII) on the face end of the air cleaner element with a waterproof pen.

Clean the interior and sealing surfaces of the air cleaner housing (2) and the gaskets

Use a moist, non-fluffing cloth for cleaning.

Clean the dust extraction valve (10)

Press together the dust extraction valve by hand and remove dust residues in the inside with your finger.

Install in the reverse order
