Increased static charging may result in cases where new seat covers are installed or if clothing has a high synthetic content. Uncontrolled discharge may result in problems in the vehicle's electronic control units.
In order to divert the discharge in a controlled fashion, a ground line must be installed in the seat. On vehicles equipped with code (GS7) Gear control II, another ground line is required for the gear control (GS) shift control unit.
