Service Information: Procedure for SCAN coding

 Procedure for SCAN coding of Head Unit (Radio or COMAND) as of DAS Version 08/2007

As of Star Diagnose version 08/2007 the Head Unit can still only be coded via the SCAN process. Exceptions:

In addition to the language settings and the setting of the radio frequency ranges (on vehicles with code 498 (Japan version) the settings for the VICS, ETC and TV will have to be programmed).

These codings are reset to the manufacturer default settings at the next SCAN coding and should be checked if necessary.

An SCAN coding of the Head Unit is required after each control unit programming (Software Update).

Background:

The coding of the hands-free parameters and sound parameters depends on the current control unit software.

In the most simple case the SCAN coding should be carried out with Star Diagnosis System online.

In the "Off-line" case the control unit can be coded via a data storage device (CD or USB stick) due to the quantity of coding data. An overview of the current coding is available under the menu item "Control unit adaptations", "Variant coding".

Procedure when retrofitting

When retrofitting a component the changes to the vehicle must be redocumented corresponding to the notes in the DAS [Diagnosis Assistance System] (e.g retrofit of DAB tuner).

Redocumentation can take place both "Online" and "Off-line".

 Online
After logging on to the central online systems the SA code is entered in the DAS screen. Alternatively it can be entered directly into the FDOK

 Off-line
Input of special equipment codes in the DAS (afterwards print out and send the fax form)

For the Off-line fallback process Daimler ERG reserves the right to invoice 9 EUR per fax query.

A special aid to redocumentation is available under the menu item "control unit adaptations", "variant coding". If the special equipment code is not redocumented the "old" coding is coded in the Head Unit the next time the SCAN coding takes place.

Procedure when replacing the Head Unit

No codings are adopted from the old Head Unit. SCAN coding should always be carried out.

Put the Head Unit into operation via the menu item "Commissioning"after installing the Head Unit. It is checked whether new software exists. This will be installed if necessary. Subsequently the Head Unit must be SCAN coded in each case.



As usual before removing the old Head Unit the existing customer data can be secured and written in again after installing the new Head Unit.

If necessary the function of comfort telephony should be activated after commissioning.
