Lithium-ion batteries are classified as hazardous materials and must meet correspondingly high safety requirements. This includes verification that the lithium-ion batteries have performed a test for transport safety (regulated in the "UN Manual of Tests and Criteria – Part III, Section 38.3 – Lithium metal and lithium ion batteries").
Senders and carriers transporting lithium-ion batteries must ascertain - as well as all other procedures related to hazardous goods regulations - before transportation whether the test as per "UN Manual of Tests and Criteria – Part III, Section 38.3 " has been carried out.
In addition, a so-called UN 38.3 test summary by the manufacturer (as of 01.01.2020) must be made available for all on request. The UN 38.3 test summary does not need to be carried along during transport. When transporting several identical batteries, it is sufficient to check the presence of the UN 38.3 test summary once.
As a manufacturer, Daimler AG will comply by making the UN 38.3 test summaries of the installed lithium-ion batteries for on-board electrical system and drive support system available in hazardous materials and hazardous substances management (GMS) portal. Service operations can therefore provide the UN 38.3 test summary or the link to the GMS Portal on request. The UN 38.3 test summaries can be called up at the following address:

"To the hazardous substances information" tab -> no registration necessary.
Enter the item number of the lithium-ion battery and download the UN 38.3 test summary on the right.
