We are providing you with information here on the handling and structure of the operation number group for diagnosis scopes. The operation number group was published with the WIS/ASRA version 03/2004 and from this point on it should be used for diagnosis activities.
The operation items are grouped together in the respective design groups with the number range XX-0640 to XX-0999 (see the table below) and are thereby always assigned to the system to be diagnosed.
Generally, the AP "54-1011 Perform quick test" must be used when starting diagnosis. After the quick test, the system test for each of the design groups will be listed.
The AP 54-1011 (Perform quick test) can be used several times over, if this is necessary during a repair procedure and confirmed by the diagnosis. Previous included operations (e.g. delete fault memory) must be conducted. Where the operation item is used several times over, a brief reasoning must be noted on the order and the message field.
The diagnosis structure following on the quick test depends on whether a fault code has been stored for the customer complaint. The fault code shall be considered as part of the order preparation.
The following application rule always applies to the necessary test operations:
1 Use of operation items with the ending "0" (e.g. XX-0640, XX-0660, XX-0700, ...), if:
- no fault code is stored but a reproducible customer complaint is present and further test operations are necessary.
2 Use of operation items with the ending "1" (e.g. XX-0641, XX-0661, XX-0701, ...), if:
- a fault code has been stored.
3 The joint use of operation items, e.g. XX-0640 and XX-0641 is only permissible in justified cases. The justification for common use must be entered in the message field, otherwise the operation item may be rejected.
Operation item "54-0991 Control unit: ....................Install software (after quick test)" refers to a generally valid item, irrespective of the flash period. It includes the coding and "flashing" of several control units, if this is conducted as part of a sequence, in other words, the procedure need only be started once.
Please see the information on filing all repair documentation in a tamperproof manner (see SI00.01-P-0024A Use of basic operations (G) and linked operations ).
Individual tests which are not taken into account in these average values are applied as individual operation items with working hours or time prescribed by foreperson, such as:
Check fuel low pressure circuit
Check throttle valve actuator
Check charging system for leaks
Exposure work is not included here and is to be cited separately (see included work texts or operation items).
With regard to engine subjects, 003 work units are established for the following individual component tests under AP 07-0641"Check separate parts of engine ............. as per fault code" :
Check coolant temperature sensor
Check intake air temperature sensor
Check hot film MAF sensor
Check charge air temperature sensor
Check intake port shutoff
Check leakage quantity of injectors
Check knock control
Check ignition coils (secondary side)
Check oil sensor
Check intake manifold pressure sensor
The following operation numbers and operation texts have been applied for model series 203, 209, 215 and 220 for processing of complaints in the telematics area:
82-0702 Check radio/TV
82-0703 Check screen
82-0704 Check CD-drive/changer and CC drive
82-0705 Check navigation system
82-0706 Check telephone/cell phone
82-0707 Check fiber optic cable and wake-up signal
82-0708 Check antennae
On model series 203, 209, 215 and 220 the operation items listed replace operation item 82-0700 "Check communication system (as per quick test routine)".
Telematics diagnosis operations on the model series not listed above should be carried out under AP 82-0700 and 82-0701.
In all other design groups, the structure and procedures for the diagnosis work on control units with fault codes is shown in the same way.
The AP 82-9905 for COMAND remains valid. Items 80-XXXX for key programming or teach-in remain unchanged.
The operation item AP 54-1010 "Check electrical system, establish findings" or 82-1015 " Establish diagnosis on the electrical system" are available for diagnosis work, if no special diagnosis operation item is available within the affected design group. Combination of this/these operation item/s with test items of the diagnosis structure described is not permissible.
Removal and installation operations are not affected by this. They are still contained in the current design groups.
