7 Diaphragm cylinder
8 Compression springs
9 Thrust pieces
Application of the brakes
When the driver presses the brake pedal, the diaphragm cylinder is filled with compressed air and the piston rod presses with a force F1 on the eccentrically mounted lever (6).
The force F1 is increased by the lever transmission ratio and eccentric bearing of the lever (6) and the thrust pieces (9) press with force F2 on the inner brake pad (4) via the bridge (5) and integrated threaded pipes.
After clearing the play between the inner brake pad (4) and brake disc (3), the inner brake pad presses against the brake disc. The reaction force F3 now created in the brake caliper (1) causes the brake caliper (1) to press the opposite, outer brake pad (2) against the brake disc (3) with the same force F2.
Releasing the brakes
If the brake pressure is reduced, both compression springs (8) press the bridge (5) with integrated threaded pipes and thrust pieces (9) and the lever (6) back to the starting position.
