Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
1 | Raise front axle and lower onto jack stands | The wheels must turn freely.
2 | Remove cap from test connection (1)
3 | Attach pressure gauge and test hose | Pressure gauge
Test hose | |||
4 | Start engine and run at high idle speed | Oil temperature in steering system
5 | Move steering to left and right stop and read off values on pressure gauge | There is a pressure buildup (limit pressure) at the respective stop. This pressure must be read off. If the values are not reached, switch off the engine and adjust the hydraulic limiter.
Adjust | |||
6 | Perform basic setting
7 | Start engine and run at high idle speed | Oil temperature in steering system
8 | Move steering to left stop and hold at this position | Make use of the spring travel at the steering wheel rim.
Have a second person move the steering wheel.
9 | Slowly screw in left limiter adjustment screw (3) until specified value is reached | As you screw in the adjustment screw to reach the specified value, repeatedly release the steering from the left stop slightly and then move it back to the left stop position. If the specified value has still not been reached after several adjustment procedures, replace the left limiter adjustment screw (3):
Remove/install adjusting screw of hydraulic limiter
10 | Tighten lock nut (5) of left limiter adjustment screw (3) | Counter the left end limiting adjustment screw (3).
| |||
11 | Move steering to right stop and hold at this position | Make use of the spring travel at the steering wheel rim.
12 | Slowly screw in right limiter adjustment screw (4) until specified value is reached | As you screw in the adjustment screw to reach the specified value, repeatedly release the steering from the right stop slightly and then move it back to the right stop position. If the specified value has still not been reached after several adjustment procedures, replace the right limiter adjustment screw (4):
Remove/install adjusting screw of hydraulic limiter
13 | Tighten lock nut (5) of right limiter adjustment screw (4) | Counterhold the right limiter adjustment screw (4).
| |||
14 | Turn off engine | ||
15 | Detach pressure gauge and test hose | Pressure gauge
Test hose | |||
16 | Attach cap to test connection (1)
17 | Conduct a road test | Check the overall steering behavior of the vehicle. |
