Warning | Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
Caution | Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid | Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.
Danger | Risk of accident when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. | Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.

| Remove/install | ||
1 | Remove cover over the brake fluid expansion reservoir
2 | Clean area surrounding the cap of the brake fluid expansion reservoir | Assembly cleaner
3 | Unscrew cap from brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some brake fluid | This prevents the brake fluid expansion reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.
4 | Move rear axle brake lining (9) into assembly position
| |||
The hood must be closed.
5 | Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (at least 2 m)
6 | Remove rear wheel | ||
7 | Unhook electric line (13) from holders
8 | Unhook electric line (14) from holders | Model 257
9 | Detach electrical plug (2) from coupling housing for brakepad wear sensor (5) | When removing brake caliper (1) on right.
10 | Remove bolt (4) and hang coupling housing for brakepad wear sensor (5) to one side | When removing brake caliper (1) on right.
11 | Release and detach electrical plug (8)
12 | Remove brake hose (7)
13 | Remove bolts (3) | Guide pin to brake caliper support or bolt for guide pin to brake caliper
14 | Remove brake caliper (1) from brake caliper support (11) | Installation:
15 | Remove electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1, M76/2) from brake caliper (1) | When replacing the brake caliper (1).
| Check | ||
16 | Check brake caliper (1) and dust boot on brake piston for leak tightness and damage | If a problem arises
| |||
Replace brake caliper (1).
Installation: | |||
17 | Check brake caliper support (11) for damage | If a problem arises
| |||
Replace brake caliper support (11).
18 | Check guide pin (12) for damage and ease of movement | If a problem arises
| |||
Replace brake caliper support (11).
19 | Remove brakepads (9), check for wear and condition
| |||
If a problem arises | |||
| |||
Replace brakepads (9).
