Raise vehicle with vehicle lift

Detach front part of propeller shaft (1) from transfer case (2) or flexible coupling

Only with code (ZG2) Permanent all-wheel drive

 Mark installation position, tie propeller shaft (1) to vehicle underbody.

 Installation: Observe installation position, use new bolts.



Detach front part of propeller shaft (1) from transmission or flexible coupling

Only without code (ZG2) Permanent all-wheel drive

 Mark installation position, tie propeller shaft (1) to vehicle underbody.

 Installation: Observe installation position, use new bolts.



Detach rear section of propeller shaft (1) from rear axle differential (3)

 Mark installation position, tie propeller shaft (1) to vehicle underbody.

 Installation: Observe installation position, use new bolts.



Detach front propeller shaft center support bearing (4)

 Pay attention to spacer washers on CODE (ZG2) Permanent all-wheel drive. Do not mix up spacer washers.



Detach rear propeller shaft center support bearing (5)

 Pay attention to spacer washers on CODE (ZG2) Permanent all-wheel drive. Do not mix up spacer washers.



Remove check strap (6) and detach propeller shaft (1) from vehicle underbody

 Use aid of helper.

 Installation: Pay attention to correct position of check strap (6).



Checking

Check universal joints for wear and damage

 If the universal joints are worn or damaged, pull apart the propeller shaft (1) and replace the appropriate piece of the propeller shaft (1); see:



Check front propeller shaft center support bearing (4) and rear propeller shaft center support bearing (5) for wear and damage

 If the front propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4) and rear propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5) or the grooved ball bearings are worn or damaged, replace them; see:


