Remove/install wheel hub on leading axle

Removing

1

Remove brake carrier with brake caliper.

Remove rpm sensor

Unscrew bolts (8) and detach wheel flange ring (7)

Unscrew nut (5) and remove thrust plate (4)

Screw assembly sleeve onto the axle stub



Pull front wheel hub (3) with brake disk (6) off over the assembly sleeve

Pry brake disk (6) off wheel hub using a hydraulic press

Remove protective ring (2)



Install

Prepare steering knuckle (1) for installation of protective ring (2)

Install new protective ring (2)

 The bore in the protective ring (2) and bore in the rpm sensor in the steering knuckle (1) must overlap, otherwise the rpm sensor may not be installed correctly and malfunctions of the ABS (ABS) or Electronic Stability Program (ESP) may occur.

Coat sealing lip of protective ring (2) with grease

Coat axle stub in the area of the bearing seat of front wheel hub (3) with paste

Slide front wheel hub (3) over the assembly sleeve onto the axle stub and detach assembly sleeve

Install new nut (5) with a new thrust plate (4)

 Whilst constantly turning the front wheel hub (3) tighten nut (5) with approx. 210 Nm, then tighten to the specified tightening torque and do not loosen anymore.



Clean the centering seat on the front wheel hub (3), on wheel flange ring (7) and on both sides of the brake disk (6) and coat with multi-purpose paste

Screw in one guide pin each at two opposite bores of the front wheel hub (3)



Guide pins for installing the wheel flange ring and brake disk on the wheel hub

Attach brake disk (6) and wheel flange ring (7) over the guide pins to the front wheel hub (3)

Fit brake disk (6) and wheel flange ring (7) using new bolts (8) onto the front wheel hub (3)

 Only screw in new bolts (8) by hand and then tighten in a criss cross pattern with the specified tightening torque.


