Remove/install rear wheel hub

Removing

Remove rear wheels

 Removal:
When removing the rear wheels, the vehicle must be supported at the jacking points provided.

Operate parking brake

 The parking brake must be applied in order to hold the brake disc on the axle so that it can remain on the vehicle during the subsequent work.

If the parking brake has a mechanical release (emergency release), the parking brake release screw must be screwed in.

Remove rear-axle shaft (3)

Unscrew locking bolts (9) of brake disc (12)

Unlock and unscrew outer slotted nut (4)



Remove locking plate (5)

Unscrew inner slotted nut (6)



Remove thrust washer (7)

Pull off rear wheel hub (10)

Remove outer tapered roller bearing (8) from rear wheel hub (10)



Checking

Check thrust ring (14) for damage and galling

 The thrust ring must be replaced if necessary: 

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects.

Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

Install

Push rear wheel hub (10) onto axle tube (13)

 Grease the bearing seats on the axle tube (13) with multi-purpose grease and ensure that the lip of the radial sealing ring is not damaged.

Install outer tapered roller bearing (8) in rear wheel hub (10)

 Grease the tapered roller bearing (8) and the race of the rear wheel hub (10) before inserting.

Push on thrust washer (7)

Screw on inner slotted nut (6)

 Tighten the inner slotted nut (6) only until it touches the thrust washer (7).



Align rear wheel hub (10) with hole pattern on brake disc (12)

Tighten brake disc (12) on rear wheel hub (10)



Release parking brake

Adjust wheel bearing play
