Remove/install spring control arm on front axle

Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

 Installation

Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.

Raise vehicle with vehicle lift

Remove front wheel



Remove/install wheels

Remove torque strut (18) from steering knuckle (5)

 Installation: Replace self-locking nut (18b).

Detach tie rod (10) from steering knuckle (5)

 Installation: Replace self-locking nut.

Detach suspension strut (40) from spring control arm (17)

 Front suspension strut to spring control arm

Pry torsion bar link rod (23) off spring control arm (17)

 Installation: Press torsion bar link rod (23) onto hexagon of ball joint in spring control arm (17).



Remove track control arm (17) from front subframe.

 Do not twist bolt (17a). When loosening the nut (17c) it is absolutely essential to counterhold the bolt (17a) otherwise the lock tabs for camber adjustment are sheared off in the rubber mount of the spring control arm.

 Installation: Screw nut (17c) onto bolt (17a), continuing until it seats on surface, but do not tighten, so that the rubber bushing on the track control arm can turn when the suspension is compressed. Do not tighten nut (17c) until in ready-to-drive condition.



Remove spring control arm (17) from front-axle carrier

 Pull wheel carrier outwards.

Unscrew nut (17b) on spring control arm from steering knuckle (5)



Press spring control arm (17) out of steering knuckle (5)

Remove spring control arm (17) from torsion bar link rod (23) and remove

 Check rubber mounts, ball joints and pivot bushings in spring control arm for signs of damage and replace spring control arm if necessary.

Install in the reverse order

Perform wheel alignment check
