1 Pre-tension tapered roller bearing using adjusting sleeve (1.1) while turning constant mesh gear 2 (5).
The tapered roller bearings are pre-tensioned sufficiently when the
constant mesh gear 2 (5) becomes difficult to turn.
2 Loosen adjusting sleeve (1.1) slightly.
3 Turn constant mesh gear 2 (5) several times while simultaneously tapping the constant mesh gear 2 (5) using a plastic mallet.
To relieve jamming.
4 Tighten adjusting sleeve (1.1) finger-tight at tapered roller bearing.
W26.50-1068-01
5 Install dial indicator (2) on setting gauge (1.2).
6 Fit setting gauge (1.2) so it slides on adjusting sleeve (1.1).
W26.50-1069-02
7 Mount dial indicator on collar (A) of main shaft (35) and to "0".
8 Push dial indicator onto ground surface (B) of tapered roller bearing (4) and read off dimension (X).
9 Determine size of shim:
Dimension (X) - 0.10 mm.
10 Detach setting gauge (1.2) with dial indicator and adjusting sleeve (1.1).

11 Pull off constant mesh gear 2 (5) approx. 1 mm using gripper.
12 Fit appropriate shim (3) and thrust washer (1.3) on collar of journal. Fit adjusting sleeve (1.1) and tighten.
13 Loosen adjusting sleeve (1.1) and turn constant mesh gear 2 (5) several times while simultaneously tapping the constant mesh gear 2 (5) using a plastic mallet.
To relieve jamming.
14 Tighten adjusting sleeve (1.1) finger-tight at tapered roller bearing.
W26.50-1071-01
15 Install setting gauge (1.2) with dial indicator (2) so that it can move on the adjusting sleeve (1.1).
16 Position dial indicator (2) on the ground surface of the constant mesh gear
wheel 2 (5).
Rotate constant mesh gear 2 (5) at least 20 times.
17 Set dial indicator (2) to "0".
18 Read off bearing clearance at dial indicator (2) while turning the constant mesh gear 2 (5) slightly to the left and right and simultaneously pressing it up and down.
19 Compensate for any deviations by removing adjusting sleeve (1.1) and installing an appropriate shim. Repeat measuring procedure.
Observe correct bearing clearance.
20 Remove special tools.
