| Important information and preliminary measures | Recommended requirements are always to be followed, of personal safety to prevent accidents, as well as of environment protection. | |
Danger! | Life at risk by vehicle slipping or falling off the lift | Position the vehicle on an appropriate lift so the front axle wheels, rear drive and driven axle wheels remain supported safely on the support plates of the elevator, at the lifting points determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Disconnect the ground lead or turn off the battery master switch
2 | Apply the parking brake
3 | Put the shifter in neutral
Danger! | Risk of injury by pinching and crushing when tilting the cab | During back and forth cab tilting, stay away from tilting area and take preventive measures to avoid non-authorized people from entering tilting area. Always tilt the cab to its final position and secure it with the safety device.
4 | Tilt the cab. | ||
5 | Drain the gearbox oil | ||
| Manual gearbox - oil change | ||
Danger! | Risk of poisoning from brake fluid ingestion. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid | Drain and store brake fluid only in the original packing. Wear protective clothes and safety goggles.
6 | Remove the hydraulic pipe (17) of the clutch actuation | Put an appropriate container under the gearbox (1) and wipe any brake fluid run out. Plug the hydraulic pipe opening (17).
7 | Remove the seal and detach the electric connector (6)
8 | Remove the electric connector on the neutral switch (7)
9 | Remove the gear selection cable (19) and the gear shifting cable (20) | Attention, do not modify the adjusting of the gear selection cable (19) and of the gear shifting cable (20).
10 | Loosen the bolts (10) on the output flange (9) and remove the transmission shaft (11) | Mark the position of the output flange (9) in relation to the transmission shaft (11). In this case, mark the position of the parts on the main shaft groves. Should this not be observed and assembled off the original position, the transmission shaft will be unbalanced causing serious vehicle vibration problems.
11 | Loosen the gearbox rear mount (12) bolts | Should it be necessary, remove the complete mount assembly of the gearbox rear part, to do so, remove the bolts and nuts of the rear support on the cross member (13) attaching the support to the cross member.
12 | Loosen the bolts (16) attaching the gearbox to the engine | Loosen the support integrated to the exhaust by the right side and the pipe clamp at top left.
13 | Support the gearbox and remove it | Utilize an appropriate winch or lift.
| Clean | ||
14 | Thoroughly clean all components | Dry clean the components connected to the gearbox, do not utilize chemical agents.
| Check | ||
15 | Check the gearbox components for condition | Check for damage and wear and replace all necessary components.
16 | Align the clutch disc assembled on the engine flywheel | Before being installed in the vehicle, the gearbox (1) will have to be completely assembled and with the clutch housing, including the hydraulic clutch actuation device and the output flange (9) of the transmission shaft (11)
Lightly lubricate the input shaft grooves with long duration grease before installing the gearbox. Utilize an appropriate device.
| Installing | ||
17 | Install the gearbox and place the bolts (16) | The gearbox will have to be aligned and centered to facilitate the fitting of the input shaft in the clutch disc.
18 | Install the supporting bracket (14) and tighten the nuts and bolts of the rear support on the cross member (13)
19 | Place the bolts of the gearbox rear mount (12) | The final tightening of the rear mount (12) bolts will have to be carried out after the gearbox (1) is completely fastened to the engine.
| |||
20 | Tighten the gearbox bolts (16) | The gearbox bolts (16), will have to be tightened alternately crosswise.
| |||
21 | Tighten the bolts of the gearbox rear mount (12)
22 | Install the transmission shaft (11) | Attention to the correct assembly position of the output flange (9) of the transmission shaft (11).
| |||
Danger! | Risk of poisoning from brake fluid ingestion. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid | Drain and store brake fluid only in the original packing. Wear protective clothes and safety goggles.
23 | Install the hydraulic pipe (17) of the clutch actuation
24 | Bleed the clutch actuation system
25 | Install the gear selection cable (19) and the gear shifting cable (20)
26 | Install the electric connector (6) | Seal the electric connector (6).
27 | Install the electric connector on the neutral switch (7)
28 | Fill the gearbox with oil
| Manual gearbox - oil change | ||
29 | Wipe-up any oil or brake fluid residue around the gearbox
Danger! | Risk of injury by pinching and crushing when tilting the cab | During back and forth cab tilting, stay away from tilting area and take preventive measures to avoid non-authorized people from entering tilting area. Always tilt the cab to its final position and secure it with the safety device.
30 | Returning the cab to the operating position
31 | Connect the ground lead or turn on the battery master switch
32 | Do a test drive and check the behavior of the gearbox and clutch |
