1 Turn rotor shaft alternately in both directions and move back and forth lightly in the process in the axial direction (arrow).
This causes carbon deposits on the rotor shaft and turbocharger housing to loosen.
2 Remove freed up carbon deposits.
3 Check rotor shaft for easy and even running.
Turn rotor shaft to do this. The rotor shaft is centrifugally-stabilized and guided in its bearings with a relatively large play.
4 Check axial play on rotor shaft
Move rotor shaft back and forth in the axial direction (arrow) to do this and check whether the turbine wheel (1) or the compressor impeller on the turbocharger housing is noticeably impacted. Only if the turbine wheel (1) and compressor impeller on the turbocharger are not impacted is the axial play OK. The turbocharger must be replaced in all other cases.

5 Check radial play for rotor shaft
Move rotor shaft back and forth in the radial direction (arrow) to do this, turning and check whether the turbine wheel (1) or the compressor impeller on the turbocharger housing is noticeably impacted. Only if the turbine wheel (1) and compressor impeller on the turbocharger are not impacted is the radial play OK. The turbocharger must be replaced in all other cases.
