1 Attach dial indicator (5) to dial indicator holder (4).
2 Position dial indicator (5) with a preload onto the plane face of the cylinder head (1).
In the case of a cylinder head (1) with inductive hardenings the
dial indicator holder (4) must stand with dial indicator (5) on even surfaces between the inductive hardenings.
3 Set scale of dial indicator (5) to "0".
4 Move dial indicator (5) together with dial indicator holder (4) sufficiently so that the tracer pin is positioned on the valve disk of an inlet valve (2) or exhaust valve (3).
Measure valve setbacks (B) at both inlet valves (2) and at the exhaust valves (3). Set scale of the dial indicator (5) to "0" before every measurement.
5 Read off value on dial indicator (5) scale and note.
The valve setback (B) must lie within the permissible tolerance range for the valve pair of the intake valve (2) or exhaust valve (3).
