Valve disk (3) must be resting on valve seat.
1 Place the dial indicator holder (2) with attached dial indicator (1) under tension of the tracer pin on the cylinder head contact surface.
2 Set scale of dial indicator (1) to "0".
3 Move dial indicator holder (2) with the attached dial indicator (1) until the tracer pin is sitting on the valve disk (3).
Lift the tracer pin while moving.
4 Read off measurement (A) for the valve setback to the cylinder head contact surface on
dial indicator (1).

5 Attach dial indicator (1) to
dial indicator holder (4) and mount on top separating surface of cylinder head.
6 Place tracer pin of dial indicator (1) with preload on to the stem end of one of the two intake valves (5).
7 Set scale of dial gage to "0".
8 Retract tracer pin, place on stem end of the other intake valve (5) and read off measurement.
The permissible difference for intake valves, measured between the cylinder head and valve stem end, must not be exceeded.
