Removing

1

Open engine compartment flap, additional flap and engine maintenance flap at the rear left

Remove cylinder head cover for the first cylinder

 Take off gasket.

Attach turning device to timing case



Check

Place cylinder 1 at ignition TDC



- The rocker arms are relieved, the push rods can be turned easily.

- The TDC marking on the flywheel matches with the edge in the spy hole.

Remove valve clearance on cylinder 1

The valve clearance is then '0' 

Set valve clearance

 See Maintenance Manual.

Crank engine further in the direction of rotation by one revolution

 Cylinder 1 stands at overlap TDC.

Place dial indicator holder with dial indicator on the cylinder head



Place dial indicator under tension on the intake valve valve disk

 Set scale to '0'.

9

Turn engine opposite to the direction of rotation until the pointer on the dial indicator stops

 Read off measurement of TDC intake valve lift.

Timing with zero-clearance valve setting via measurement of the valve lift

 If the measured value lies outside the specified value: 

Remove camshaft

Inspect camshaft

Continue to crank engine in the direction of rotation until cylinder 1 again stands at overlap TDC

Place dial indicator under tension on the exhaust valve valve disk

 Set scale to '0'.



Continue to crank engine in the direction of rotation until the pointer on the dial indicator stops

 Read off measurement of TDC exhaust valve lift.

Timing with zero-clearance valve setting via measurement of the valve lift

Remove camshaft

Remove dial indicator and dial indicator holder

Set valve clearance on cylinder 1

 See Maintenance Manual.

Install

Install cylinder head cover for the first cylinder

 Install new gasket.


