1 | Open cap of fuel tank and close again. | This relieves overpressure in the fuel tank. | |
2 | Clean are surrounding fuel filter module. | ||
3 | Replace fuel prefilter. | ||
4 | Unscrew threaded cap (1) of fuel filter. | Wait until the fuel has flowed out of the fuel filter housing before removing threaded cap (1) with filter insert. | |
5 | Remove threaded cap (1) of fuel filter with filter insert from fuel filter housing and unclip filter insert by pushing at sides. | | |
6 | Drain water separator. | ||

7 | Replace sealing ring on threaded cap (1) of fuel filter and grease lightly. | MB multipurpose grease, 400 g | |
8 | Coat sealing rings (5 and 6) with grease included in parts kit. | ||
9 | Insert new filter element into threaded cap (1) of fuel filter. | ||
10 | Screw on threaded cap (1) of fuel filter with filter element and tighten. | Engine 470.9, 471.9Fuel filter cover to fuel filter module | |
11 | Release handle of hand pump (4) by turning it. | ||
12 | Operate hand pump (4) until a back pressure is noticeable when pumping. | ||
13 | Tighten handle of hand pump (4). | ||

14 | Check leak tightness of fuel filter module with engine running. | Perform a visual inspection only and then switch off the engine. | |
15 | Delete "Fuel filter replacement due" or "Fuel filter clogged" errors using the vehicle diagnosis system. | Only if fault code was shown beforehand. | |
