Switch off actuation of unit pumps using diagnostic system

Only when cranking engine with starter.


To do so, connect diagnostic system.
Switch off the ignition and disconnect the diagnostic system only after the valve clearance has been checked at all cylinders and adjusted, if necessary.
This prevents the engine from inadvertently starting up.

Move engine using cranking device (4) into crankshaft position for selected adjustment method

Press and hold external engine stop (S11), then press external engine start (S10) and then move engine into crankshaft position for selected adjustment method

 The engine does not start when the external engine start (S10) and the external engine stop (S11) are pressed at the same time.

 Danger !

Only when cranking engine with starter.

 Switching off the unit pump actuation using the diagnostic system means that the engine will not start.
After switching off the ignition or disconnecting the diagnostic system, the unit pump actuation is activated again and then the engine can start.

Check and adjust valve clearance (arrows)

 Check and adjust valve clearance (arrows) with cold engine.
Wait for at least 30 minutes after switching off the engine, even if it was only run for a brief period to ensure a uniform temperature is maintained.
The test tolerance applies for the test only, not for the adjustment.
