1 | Lift rear vehicle with floor jack | ||
2 | Loosen rear fender paneling (1) from bumper down to below tank recess (3) and lift out of rear fender and bumper using assembly wedge. | | |
3 | Remove drain hose (2) from tank recess (3). | ||
4 | Unlock fuel filler flap (8) on catch hook (9) and remove from hinge (7). | ||
5 | Remove ring (5) from tank fitting | On vehicles with diesel engine. | |
6 | Remove expansion clip (6) | ||
7 | Coat sealing lip on tank recess (3) with lubricant and install over tank flap | Carefully install tank recess sealing lip (3) over tank flap to prevent tearing. | |

8 | Remove rubber plug (4) | ||
9 | Insert Ø 3 mm drill bit (11) with shank first max. 8 mm deep into the release hose (arrow A) and press catch hook (10) down by raising drill bit and simultaneously pulling on hinge (7). Then perform procedure on release hole (arrow B and then arrow C). | ||
10 | Perform procedure mentioned above on release hole (arrow D and then arrow E) and thereby slightly pull tank recess (3) toward outside using extraction hook | Guide extraction hook into drain opening of tank recess (3) and hook. | |

11 | Lift tank recess (3) out of rear fender in area of tank cap central locking motor (M14/10) | ||
12 | Unhook emergency release cable (12) from lever (13). | ||
13 | Disconnect electrical connector (14) from tank cap central locking motor (M14/10) | ||
14 | Remove tank recess (3) | ||
| Install | ||
15 | Connect electrical connector (14) to tank cap central locking motor (M14/10) | ||
16 | Hook emergency release cable (12) into lever (13) | ||
17 | Clip tank recess (3) into rear fender | ||
18 | Install rubber plug (4) | ||
19 | Install expansion clip (6) | ||
20 | Install ring (5) | On vehicles with diesel engine. | |
21 | Install fuel filler flap (8) on hinge (7) | ||
22 | Attach drain hose (2) | ||
23 | Fasten rear fender paneling (1) |
